"This space isn’t just a studio—it’s a place for ideas, dialogue, and the future of design in Nairobi."

- Studio Mehta

Introducing the sm.a design studio.

We're thrilled to share a glimpse into Studio Mehta Architecture's new design studio in Nairobi, a space we've thoroughly enjoyed building and producing joinery & furniture for, transforming a former shopfront into an outstanding open-plan studio.

Entering the space, you're greeted by our Imara table paired with our upholstered Dining Chairs and modular shelving in Mvule surrounding the wall mounted TV to form the backdrop of any meetings and discussions. Bespoke shelving units lie along either side of the studio, offering both ample storage space as well as platforms for display. Limestone waste terrazzo with brass inlaid divider strips married with our Kährs wood design luxury tiles make for an absolutely stunning floor across the studio.
Moving to the back of the studio, we're introduced to what we like to call, "The Magic Factory". Multiple workstations sitting on bespoke solid Mvule timber work desks with integrated electricals makes for seamless connection and disconnection of equipment. A multi-purpose cabinet and kitchenette in solid Mvule timber with indirect lighting is a wall of warmth towering over the workspace.
Quite literally speaking, the 'highlight' of the studio is the gold crinkle board enveloping the ceiling, with a shadow gap embedded with LED strip lights to wash the art-furnished, off-white textured walls on either side of the studio. A small sill-like ledge, embedded with another run of strip lighting, runs across both walls in the space, providing a contrasting divider between the walls above and the terrazzo below. The final touch to the variations of mood lighting in the space are these custom-fabricated pendants anchored to the ceiling using brass piping with a solid Palm timber base around which a length of strip lighting is coiled.

A befitting work environment for such an exemplary architectural studio!
